Storytelling Festival

Date: 7 September 2018
Time: 18:00 – 20:00
Venue: Newtown Junction Piazza

#OURSTORIES are a precious part of our inherited cultural wealth within our families and communities. They have the power to teach, inspire, excite and connect and soothe. There are stories all around us and we all have stories to tell.
This year our well-loved National Book Week (NBW) mascot Funda Bala, after a nine-province tour to celebrate storytelling in our multiple styles and languages, arrives at the SABF for the culmination of this story feast! Join us under the Jozi nightlights at dusk as six multi-talented storytellers set our hearts and imaginations on fire!

Come and meet, and interact with, our amazing line-up of storytellers:

Intsomi Yam – Yintsomi Yakho(My Story – Your Story) – Nompucuko Hluma Zakaza, accompanied by Dr Nkosi on percussion – IsiXhosa
I’ve Come to Take You Home – Diana Ferrus – Afrikaans/English
Migritude – Shailja Patel – English
Intombazanana Namaphupha (A Girl and Her Dreams) – Mthunzikazi Mbungwana – Isizulu/English
