SYNOPSIS:

A Saint in Brown Sandals is an 11-year old girl’s honest and humorous diary account of her struggle to fit in. Rabi longs to be like her classmate Maybelline. Maybelline is rich, pretty, popular with everyone in school, and a graceful dancer. But will that mean Rabi having to give up what she enjoys doing most – track running? Will she have to leave behind her friends? As her school’s big event on television draws closer, Rabi realises she has only one chance to shine. And she has to choose: to dance in Maybelline’s dainty footsteps, or dare to run along her own path. A Saint in Brown Sandals was awarded The Macmillan Writers Prize for Africa in 2006.
